An update from Gift Daniel’s Missions with SIM -July 2024

Hello everyone.

Welcome to my first newsletter!

I trust this message finds you well and filled with joy. Thank you for being a part of my journey, whether as a supporter, friend, or someone eager to stay connected. Your love and concern mean a lot to me and my family, and I'm grateful for the community that surrounds and uplifts me.

Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a community of supporters and prayer warriors to advance the work of God's Kingdom, especially in places where faith comes at a significant cost. Your support, be it through time, space, or resources, is a testament to the strength of our shared purpose.

I am truly humbled by your grace of giving and generosity. This quarterly newsletter aims to keep you updated on my endeavours and, most importantly, to be a source of encouragement for you, just as you have been for me. "Let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the day approaching." (Hebrews 10:25)

Together, we can make an impact for His Kingdom in Missions to the unreached. Thank you for being a vital part of this journey. Below are some brief updates for your quick viewing. You can always GET IN TOUCH with me for more details.

WHAT AM I DOING NOW

I left the staff team of The Bible Church (TBC) as at 31 March 2024. On 1 June, I joined SIM-East Asia regional team as Director of Mobilization, East Asia, reporting to the SIM Regional Director. My regional missions work involves travelling but I will be based in Singapore.  To start with, I will be focusing on Indonesia and then other countries in East Asia working with various country directors in the areas of equipping and mobilisation. My family and I will continue to worship at TBC.

WHAT IS SIM

SIM is an international mission organization with more than 2,000 active missionaries serving among many diverse people groups in over 70 countries in Asia, Africa, Middle East and South America. The SIM East Asia office based in Singapore has more than 200 active missionaries serving in Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.

Mission of SIM: Convinced that no one should live and die without hearing God's good news, we believe that He has called us to make disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ in communities where He is least known.

A VISION SUPPORTED BY YOU

I desire to raise a missionary force by mobilizing and equipping Christian leaders and their churches for missions in parts of East Asia where Christ is least known and; in collaboration with churches in Singapore, place them in strategic locations to reach the lost within and outside their countries.

WHAT GOD HAS IMPRESSED ON ME

PRAY FOR THE LEAST-REACHED

Gift Papua

Are you willing to STAND in the gap for a community where Christ is least known?

25 years ago, on a mission trip to Yogyakarta, Indonesia, I met a man from Irian Jaya (now called Papua) wearing a tribal costume and took a picture with him. Back then, Irian Jaya was considered the most undeveloped and unreached area in Indonesia. Now, God is doing amazing things in West Papua.

Churches are growing, and many Papua students are studying in other parts of Indonesia with government funding. On 14 April, I met about 20 Papua students studying at a local university in Yogyakarta and shared the gospel with them. There is now a regular weekly fellowship meeting.

Please pray for:

  1. Efforts to reach Papua students studying in Yogyakarta.
  2. Churches in Papua to be rooted in God’s Word, as many pastors lack formal Bible training.
  3. Believers to be discipled and equipped to reach others in their communities.

LAST QUARTER HIGHLIGHT

Gift Daniel Refugee Camp

Over the past year, I have been guiding a group of young adults from Singapore in missions work in South India. Some of these young adults are now actively involved in addressing the educational needs of students from the Sri Lankan refugee community in the outskirts of Chennai.

In May 2024, due to local government restrictions, this work was officially registered as TriSak Charitable Trust (TriSak being a short form for Trinity and Sakthi, the Sanskrit word for Power). The Principal of Nazareth College of Arts and Science (NCAS) from Chennai is involved in this project. I am currently arranging a partnership with NCAS to mobilize their students for social service at the refugee camp. At the same time, I am mobilizing young adults from Singapore for a joint mission exposure.

As part of my ministry with SIM, I am also involved in mobilizing churches in Singapore for missions, facilitating their participation in both short-term trips and long-term missions overseas.

More details will be provided in the next update.
